Domain Name Protection

Attackers often attempt to steal passwords to the "Manage your account" panel in order to "hijack" domain names.

Therefore, we would like to remind our customers about some of the additional means of domain protection available at RU-CENTER.

RU-CENTER offers the following means of protection:

  1. IP-Address Protection
You may restrict access to the "Manage your account" panel by allowing logging in only from selected IP addresses.
  2. Ban on receiving the administrative password for a NIC-D agreement/form via email
You may ban/allow receiving the password via email listed in the "e-mail" field of your agreement/form.
  3. Ban on any operations with the domain name without personal presence of the entity's chief executive or chief executive AND one of the shareholders.

You may submit an application requesting that all actions related to registrar change, domain name transfer, or cancellation of domain names registered under your agreement must be performed only pursuant to letters signed at RU-CENTER's office by the entity's chief executive or by its chief executive AND one of the shareholders.

  4. Free Notification Services

It allows you to receive updates on all operations under your agreement.

To prevent domain hijacking, we recommend the following:

  • Keep you contact email addresses up-to-date. You also need to ensure that no unauthorized persons have access to your contact email address.
  • Do not disclose your passwords under the agreement to any unauthorized persons and do not disclose to anyone any information about your contact emails listed in the agreement/form. Remember that RU-CENTER's staff will not ask you such information.
  • Before logging into the "Manage your account" panel, please make sure that you are indeed using one of RU-CENTER's websites, that secure connection is used (HTTPS), and that SSL certificate is issued for JSC 'RU-CENTER'.
  • When receiving an email from RU-CENTER, make sure that it was sent from RU-CENTER's servers ("From:" contains addresses ending with …@nic.ru, "Received:" contains a domain name ending with  *.hostcomm.ru or *.nic.ru). If you have any doubts about the authenticity of the letter, please send it to support@nic.ru with all the header fields.
  • Do not save passwords in browser.
  • Regularly check the settings of network connections and DNS servers, so as to avoid DNS-related attacks.

All data in "e-mail" and "mnt-nfy" fields must be accurate, so that you do not miss any information about the status of your services.
